The Ceylon College of Physicians successfully conducted the Young Physicians’ Forum and College Lecture for the month of January on 20 January 2026 at the ClinMARC Auditorium, National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The programme brought together physicians and trainees for an engaging academic session aimed at enhancing clinical knowledge and supporting continuous professional development.
The Young Physicians’ Forum, held from 11.45 AM to 12.45 PM, featured two insightful presentations addressing important clinical challenges.
The first lecture, titled “Awakening: Steroid Responsive Encephalopathy Beyond the Thyroid,” was delivered by Dr Tiron Chathuranga, Senior Registrar in Medicine at the National Hospital Galle. His presentation explored the recognition and management of steroid-responsive encephalopathy beyond thyroid-related causes, emphasizing the importance of timely diagnosis and targeted therapy in improving patient outcomes.
The second presentation, “Neurologic Complications of HIV: Clinical Insights and Practical Solutions,” was delivered by Dr Chirath Madurapperuma, Senior Registrar in Neurology at the Institute of Neurology, National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The session provided valuable clinical perspectives on identifying and managing neurologic complications associated with HIV infection, along with practical approaches to patient care.
This was followed by the College Lecture, conducted from 12.45 PM to 1.30 PM, which focused on contemporary cardiovascular management. The lecture titled “Know Your Lipid Targets: Contemporary Approaches to Lipid Management,” was delivered by Dr Dinuka Liyanage, Consultant Cardiologist at the District General Hospital Horana. The session highlighted modern lipid management strategies, updated treatment targets, and evidence-based clinical practices essential for improving cardiovascular outcomes.
The programme concluded successfully with active participation and engagement from attendees. These academic activities continue to reflect the commitment of the Ceylon College of Physicians to fostering professional growth, promoting evidence-based medical practice, and supporting lifelong learning among physicians.
