The Ceylon College of Physicians (CCP), under the visionary theme “Physician for the Future”, successfully hosted a focused workshop on “Artificial Intelligence in Medicine – Opportunities and Challenges” on April 4, 2025. The event was inaugurated by Vidya Jyothi Professor Prasad Katulanda, President of CCP. His welcome address provided a foundational understanding of AI’s transformative potential in modern clinical practice.

Dr. M. T. D. Lakshan, Consultant ENT and Head and Neck Surgeon, elaborated on different AI platforms and their practical clinical applications.
Dr. Lalantha Leelaratne, from Imperial College London, shared compelling real-world experiences of AI integration in diabetes management.
Professor Vajira Dissanayake, a leading academic in anatomy and biomedical informatics, addressed the ethical considerations and potential challenges of AI in medicine.
Professor Pandula Siribaddana, a specialist in digital health, presented on the use of AI in medical research and education.
The formal session concluded with a Consensus and Guideline Development Meeting, highlighting the importance of structured policymaking in AI adoption within healthcare.
The workshop was held in hybrid mode with live streaming, providing broad accessibility. Sponsored by ESOFT, this event marked a significant step in aligning Sri Lankan healthcare with global technological trends, aiming to empower physicians with knowledge and tools to navigate the evolving landscape of AI in medicine.
